Today i finished uploading my preliminary work and my student magazine. I then began researching music magazines, deciding which genre to produce a magazine of and comparing two music magazines of the same genre.
Reflection on my student magazine
Overall i believe my student magazine (contents and cover) to be a success however it isn't without problems. In my design brief i stated how my magazine is made for the student body that care for college and it's environment and i believe i have achieved that by putting in articles such as 'Basketball season review' as this is an article about a college team and by reading the article support is shown for college. I also stuck to variations of the articles i originally planned to contain in my magazine. Although the majority of my specification points were hit i found that taking the photo how i wanted was actually a lot harder than originally perceived; my photo wasn't plain and did not necessarily promote college however it was at a key location and i do believe it works really well as a cover shot. I produced my cover using various programs that include Adobe: Photoshop, indesign and Microsoft's Word. Each program had features that were very useful to the success of my student magazine. 'Adobe Photoshop' was great for photo manipulation and eating even though it took a while to get the hang of it proved a great help. Unfortunately photoshop was not very helpful when it came to image placement which is why i began using Adobe Indesign. Indesign was very simple to use after a small demonstration was shown to me, it allowed me to produce a decent layout for my magazine. Microsoft word was also very helpful, it acted as a good research program when looking for fonts to use.

Photography tips
I found a great video that gave tips on portrait photography skills, this helped me when taking photos for my cover and contents. I posted a link to the video as embedding was disabled by the owner.

29th November
Today i uploaded the majority of my back log of work to this blog. However i will upload the rest of my work and final documents at a later date.
Magazine publisher
I researched IPC media as a publisher, i answered various questions regarding them and a gave a brief insight of the company.
Photography
I learnt about the photography on covers of magazines in general and how photographers take into account certain features when taking the images... rule of thirds etc. I have compared two magazine covers in a document taking into account rule of thirds, colour scheme and formality to show my knowledge of magazine photography.
Representations
I analysed a various selection of music magazines (one of each genre) I then completed a mini exercise where i researched the artists of each particular genre and then chose an image that i would put on a magazine of that genre. I listed why each photo had the appropriate representations for that particular magazine.

Analysis of Music magazine cover
My first task was to analyse a cover of a music magazine. This task began with finding a magazine to analyse, this was a simple task as i just searched for a "Kerrang cover" on the Google images search engine. But when choosing i made sure it was a generic cover as to being a limited/special edition cover. I depicted and labeled all the common features on the cover, it was then presented it in a Microsoft word document.
Web programs
Because there is a limit on blogger and lots of other helpful web-programs i decided to sign up for various ones to make my blog more entertaining as well as easier to browse and use.
1. "Flikr" - Flikr is a photo sharing website that allows the user to upload masses of photos and to put them into galleries/folders for ease of use.
2. "Slideshare" - Slideshare is a program that allows the user to upload whole documents to be viewed or downloaded with-out compression.
