Evaluation - Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

After completing my music magazine i looked back over what i did as a preliminary task (college magazine).

I realised straight away that my photo/image manipulation skills had increased massively as well as my photography. On my college magazine cover you can see that the image is slightly squashed as it was more of a landscape photo as opposed to portrait. You can also notice certain parts of the photo have extremely bright areas which before i didn't know how to fix with photoshop but now i know how to darken areas of a photo unlike before.

I also now realise there is a big issue surrounding the space in a magazine after looking at many music magazines. These college pages are both very sparse

Evaluation - Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

Evaluation - Question 4 & 5

Who would be the audience for your media product?

How did you attract/address your audience?

I originally did these questions as a video but the file corrupted so i figured a prezi was the next best thing.

Evaluation - Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation - Question 2

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have aimed for my product to represent “rockers” or fans of the rock/metal genre. I believe I have conveyed this in various ways. On my cover in particular I believe it shows a stereotypical member of the genre. It is a photo of a male with long dyed hair (in the form of a wig) I did this because there is a large proportion of men with long hair or at least a less normal hair cut in this social group. My second point is how he is posed/standing… he is showing some clear attitude or swagger. And it is common in the social group to have some attitude as generally they are not accepted due to them expressing them selves etc. Expressing yourself is a key feature in their social group and I think that I have achieved a replication of this in the colour scheme I chose to use… it consists of darker colours that members of the rock scene seem to wear, much like the character on my cover.

Evaluation - Question 1

In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Double page spread

A DPS in a music magazine can be about various things, the items of discussion I managed to find in a DPS were as follows... a statement e.g. a response to a recent criticism or question that was people buzzing to “set the record straight” this is not always the case but nine times out of ten it is. Next is a biography but a really shortened version like a mini biography told by the artist/band who is concerned. Then there is an interview, the most common DPS. It can be showed in many different way however. Usually an interview DPS is shown in a question and answer format which is a very simple layout. You can also have a type of noted conversation as well as an opening statement which lead the band to give a big back story.

Today i finished my cover to an extent as i forgot to bring my photos and i began putting my contents page together.

Contents page beginnings

I started my contents page but as i have a lack of photos this very second so i am producing a mock up that will be improved next week.

Cover complete

I have now finished my cover, it is just waiting on the photos to feature at the footer of the page but i forgot my usb memory device so it will be completed at a later date. I produced the tear effect near the bottom of the page with a brush tool in photoshop, originally i was going to erase some of the picture with the pen tool but i felt this gave a better result.

Cover progress -2

Cover progress

Here i have posted the current state of my magazine cover after i have cropped it and photoshopped out the date.

Picture editing for cover/contents photos

Because there was areas in some of my photos where un desirable bits could be seen i had to use photo shop to edit them... one annoying thing was that i left a time/date feature on whilst doing the photo shoot which at first worried me but i realised i could edit them.. like so..
